Hodgetts to replace Dixon for Renault Clio Cup return

Experienced tin-top racer Stefan Hodgetts will replace James Dixon at Scuderia Vittoria for the rest of the Renault Clio Cup championship, starting from this weekend at Oulton Park.

The deal came about following an announcement from Scuderia Vittoria team boss Danny Buxton that Dixon would be parting company with the squad for the rest of the season after their early struggles for a win in 2012, with Hodgetts being called up as the replacement.

Hodgetts has been a top-line competitor in many different forms of saloon and one-make racing championships over the last decade, having taken numerous victories in the SEAT Cupra Cup, Clio Cup and Trofeo Abarth GB championship.

He also raced in the British Touring Car Championship for Vauxhall and Alfa Romeo back in 2004, and made one-off appearances in the series’ numerous support championships over recent years, winning in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Croft in 2008, as well as at Oulton Park last year in the Ginetta GT Supercup.

Hodgetts will now make a return to the Clio Cup which he almost won back in 2007, finishing runner-up to Martin Byford despite taking five victories for MOMO UK.

Buxton said that Hodgetts’ success in the support championships made him the ideal candidate for the drive, although he also wished Dixon the very best with his future in motorsport.

Dixon had been lying fourth in the championship after three weekends, with a best result of fourth last time out at Thruxton.
