Newsham shows appreciation to growing fanbase at Donington

ES Racing’s Dave Newsham talked of his appreciation of his growing fanbase in the British Touring Car Championship following his great current run of form, and how he has instantly got to grips with the Vauxhall Vectra.

With a year’s experience now under his belt, Newsham recently stunned the BTCC paddock by taking pole position on his first outing in new team ES Racing’s Vauxhall Vectra at the opening round at Brands Hatch, also claiming a podium in the third race of the day.

The Inverness driver was fastest in today’s second practice session before qualifying fourth for tomorrow’s races, and expressed his delight in the car’s performance.

“It’s a beautiful car isn’t it!” said Newsham. “I knew that after the first five laps at testing. Me and this car get on really well.”

He believes that he and the car’s current impressive performances are also not just a one-off as he continues to gain experience in the Vectra, and feels he can challenge for victory this weekend.

“I don’t think it’s a massive difference at any circuit, it’s just tweaks. Getting in the car is not alien to me. I’ve never driven this car round this (Donington) circuit before, so the first session was really getting used to that and how it performs, and we were reasonably consistently quick.”

“We’re on the right weights, and obviously Jason (Plato) and Matt (Neal) are going to be carrying a lot of success ballast, so it’s looking good.”

Newsham could not hide his appreciation for his growing fanbase in the championship, and said how he tries to give his fans the same treatment back in reward.

“It’s been absolutely mega. I seem to have developed quite a large fanbase on Twitter and Facebook mainly, I try to respond to them all because I really appreciate it.

“If people have got the time to write to me then I feel it’s only right that I find the time to write a message back to them, even if it’s just a little smiley face!”
